Centre Wellington named Canada’s Most Generous City by CanadaHelps for second year in a row

Centre Wellington, Ont, has been named Canada’s most generous city for the second consecutive year, according to CanadaHelps, the country’s largest online platform for donating and fundraising.
By Nov. 30, 2024, 6.27 per cent of its 31,093 residents had donated to charity through CanadaHelps, placing Centre Wellington among the top 200 most populous Canadian cities in per capita donations.
“It is wonderful to see so many smaller cities ranked high on the list of Canada’s most generous communities this year, highlighting how communities can rally together to make a big impact,” said Duke Chang, President and Chief Executive Officer of CanadaHelps.
“As we head into the end of the year, CanadaHelps is calling on all Canadians to give what they can this holiday season to support causes close to their hearts or make an impact in their local community, whether they choose to donate, volunteer, or engage in other forms of generosity.”
Joining Centre Wellington in the top ten most generous cities are:
- Collingwood, Ont. (5.6% of residents)
- Fort Erie, Ont. (5.27% of residents)
- North Vancouver, B.C. (4.62% of residents)
- Victoria, B.C. (4.58% of residents)
- Fredericton, NB (4.25% of residents)
- St. John’s, Nfld. (4.23% of residents)
- Whitehorse, Yukon (4.10% of residents)
- Waterloo, Ont. (4.07% of residents)
- Brant, Ont. (3.94% of residents)
Other major cities in Canada are also ranked among the country’s top 200 most generous cities. This includes:
- Halifax, NS: 22nd place
- Ottawa, Ont.: 25th place
- Vancouver, B.C.: 38th place
- Toronto, Ont.: 39th place
- Calgary, Alta.: 49th place
- Hamilton, Ont.: 56th place
- Edmonton, Alta: 57th place
- Winnipeg, Man.: 66th place
- Mississauga, Ont.: 96th place
- Montréal, Que.: 148th place
Among Canada’s most generous provinces, the Atlantic provinces are some of the highest-ranking on the 2024 list:
- Nova Scotia: Named Canada’s most generous province
- Ontario: The second most generous province
- Newfoundland and Labrador: 3rd place
- Prince Edward Island: 4th place
- Alberta: 5th place
- B.C.: 6th place
- New Brunswick: 7th place
- Manitoba: 8th place
- Saskatchewan: 9th place
- Québec: 10th place
Among Canada’s territories, the rankings remain unchanged from 2023:
- Yukon: The most generous territory
- Northwest Territories: 2nd place
- Nunavut: 3rd place
