Create a world where changemakers flourish.

At Future of Good, we believe every changemaker deserves sharp, useful insight to power their work. As a digital publication, we cover the ideas, people, and trends shaping Canada’s social impact world — and our readers come from nonprofits, grassroots groups, social enterprise, philanthropy, government, and more.

Our journalism spans everything from anti‑racism to global development to digital transformation. And we don’t just report — we bring people together. Our events, including the Changemaker Wellbeing Summit, the Social Finance Summit, and the Black Leadership in Social Impact Summit, have connected thousands of changemakers across the country.

Wellness matters.

At Future of Good, wellness is central to our cultural DNA. All Future of Good staff have five weeks of paid vacation, unlimited health days, Fridays off in the summer, and a comprehensive benefits package. Everybody talks about how good paid vacation is in Europe, so we looked it up and matched it.

Learning and growth matters.

We believe that continuous learning helps us realize our collective potential. All Future of Good staff get paid time off as well as technology and professional development funds to fuel their creativity, learning and growth. Attend a course, upgrade your laptop, sign up for a conference or learn new software.

Pay transparency matters.

All pay ranges at Future of Good are publicly posted. The ratio between the lowest-paid full-time employee and the highest-paid full-time employee is no more than 3:1. So if the top must rise, then the bottom must rise too.

Equity and Social Justice Journalism Fellow

Future of Good,is hiring a racialized freelance journalist to serve as a fellow and produce a series of solutions-focused, high-impact stories on systemic inequities and the solutions advancing diversity, equity and inclusion across Canada.

This fellowship is designed to help support a racialized journalist through mentorship, professional development and the opportunity to publish deeply reported, solutions-focused stories geared towards a national Canadian audience.

This is a fully remote, contract position and is expected to be part-time over a nine-month period. The journalist is free to engage in other projects while working with us. The journalist must be a citizen or permanent resident living in Canada. Occasional travel may be required.

The total compensation will be $30,000, tax inclusive.

About the Fellowship

This fellowship will produce journalism that deepens public understanding of inequities in Canada while spotlighting the innovations that are driving change. Reporting will be trauma-informed, anti-colonial, justice-focused and grounded in community.

The work of this fellowship was made possible through the financial support of the Canadian Race Relations Foundation (CRRF). While the CRRF is partially funding the fellowship, they are not involved in what stories are written or how. See our editorial ethics guide here

From June 2026 through March 2027, the journalist is expected to write and produce:

  • 15 evergreen, feature-length stories (1,500-1,800 words)
  • Host two virtual panel discussions based on your work (produced with full Future of Good editorial support, recorded and distributed)

Key focus areas will include (but always with a solutions-focused lens):

  • Racial & Ethnic Disparities: Impacts of systemic racism on Indigenous, Black, and other racialized communities.
  • Newcomers & Refugees: Integration challenges and the policies, programs, and community‑led solutions shaping newcomer experiences.
  • Indigenous Rights: Land rights, cultural preservation, and the ongoing impacts of colonial systems.
  • Gender Equity: Barriers to parity and the innovations advancing gender justice.
  • Economic Inequities: Policies and practices that disproportionately affect underserved communities.

As part of this fellowship, you will also participate in a peer cohort led by Journalist for Human Rights (JHR). This cohort work will include monthly one-hour check-ins, six group discussions led by journalist-educator Pacinthe Mattar, and other learning sessions/opportunities (running June 2026 – March 2027).
