30 Canadian schools to share $235M for reconciliation efforts

Mastercard Foundation has selected 30 post-secondary institutions and Indigenous organizations as recipients of its newest grant

A total of $235 million will be distributed among them, recognizing their advancements in Indigenous youth education, strong community engagement, and innovative culturally aligned programs.

The funding announcement comes on the heels of the 10-year anniversary of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s final report and calls to action

In it, education was highlighted as a path towards reconciliation.

Advocates say the federal government has not fulfilled the TRC’s recommendations 10 years later.

Mastercard Foundation says its funding will allow the recipients to strengthen and grow their programs and double the number of Indigenous youth in their programs in the next ten years.
