AI Academy Solutions Lab: Fundraising and Grant Writing

Limited seats available - reserve your spot today!

Grantwriting was one of the first functions to be consumed by artificial intelligence and automation. Now, the non-profit sector has several tools to choose from in order to help them supercharge their grant applications, including Canadian platforms like GRANTED and GrantOrb.

In this event, we will hear about the opportunities and pitfalls of embedding AI into fundraising operations, as well as hearing from non-profits that have made AI a key part of their process. We will also hear from Canadian funders and foundations, who may have been on the receiving end of AI-generated grant applications, and may themselves be thinking about the growing role of AI in grants and impact management.

Key Questions

  • Can – and should – grant writing be automated?
  • Which parts of the grant application process are non-profits most likely to automate? What is still a manual process?
  • How is AI being used in appeal targeting and donor prospecting? What are the data privacy considerations here?
  • How are funders thinking about AI, both from a perspective of receiving AI-generated grant applications and from embedding AI into their own assessment process?

Who Should Attend

  • Non-profit professionals, especially those working in grants and fundraising.
  • Funders and foundations.
  • Grantwriting and fundraising consultants.

Learning Objectives

  • Learn from other non-profits about where they are using automation, predictive analytics and generative AI in their fundraising process.
  • Dive deeper into issues such as data privacy and choosing the right vendor.
  • Understand how funders are working with this large-scale shift: are they embracing or resisting the technology?

📅 Agenda 📅

Discussion: Can – and should – the whole fundraising process be automated?

Can – and should – the whole fundraising process be automated?

Fundraisers are starting to experiment with automation and predictive analytics in some parts of their process, from donor prospecting to writing grants to producing marketing materials and content. Some may be doing so off the side of their desks, while others could be coming up with more formal processes for where AI can slot in. Hear from Good Works Co., the Canadian Centre for Nonprofit Digital Resilience and Benevity on what they’re observing is happening in the fundraising landscape.

Speakers:

  • Sharlene Gandhi (Future of Good)
  • Charlotte Field (Good Works Co.)
  • Jason Shim (Canadian Centre for Nonprofit Digital Resilience)
  • Ian Goldsmith (Benevity)

Participation level: Light – Sit Back & Reflect: You’ll be invited to listen with an optional Q&A

Experimenting with Fundraising Tech: What is Working?

In this peer-to-peer learning opportunity, hear from three frontline non-profits about how automation and AI have slotted into their fundraising process. From using AI to streamline the grant searching process, to running trials and experiments, this panel will talk more about how they’ve made decisions around AI in their organizations.

Speakers:

  • Abigail Turner (Future of Good)
  • Gurbeen Bhasin (Aangen)
  • Jeffrey Normore (Canadian Council on Rehabilitation and Work)
  • Courtney Fiddis (Toronto Arts Foundation)

Participation level: Medium – Join the Conversation: You’ll be invited to share perspectives through guided discussion and prompts

What Do Funders Think of Automation in the Granting Process?

Join the Rideau Hall Foundation and the Calgary Foundation as we speak about what they have observed about AI-generated grant applications: are they easy to spot? How do funders perceive them? And finally, how are funders thinking about how AI could help them understand their own granting data or grant assessment processes?

Speakers:

  • Sharlene Gandhi (Future of Good)
  • Jason Bates (Calgary Foundation)
  • Ikem Opara (Rideau Hall Foundation)

Participation level: Light – Sit Back & Reflect: You’ll be invited to listen with an optional Q&A
