Future of Good is a digital publication whose mission is to provide changemakers with smart coverage of the social impact world. We are the essential source of stories, analysis, and commentary to make sense of a sector and society in transition. Every week, thousands of changemakers from the nonprofit, co-operative, corporate, social enterprise, philanthropic, social finance, academic, and public sectors subscribe to read our content. Our special coverage of COVID-19 effects on the social impact world is widely read across the country.ย
As Future of Goodโs Features and News Writer, your responsibilities would include both pitching stories and taking assignments, working closely with our Editor. Youโll provide in-depth insights, analysis, and reporting, covering a range of topics such as tech for good, social services, giving and philanthropy, future of work, social finance, and more. Youโll dig into the internal operations of B Corp certified companies, youโll investigate the trends changing giving and philanthropy, youโll examine universal basic income, and more. Developing fresh ways to look at developments in society coming out of covid and translating them into interesting, provocative medium-form articles is the creative challenge of this role. Youโll also cover news with a particular focus on Western Canada and the Territories for Future of Good, responding to developments and announcements in the world of social impact. Youโll write news stories on tight deadlines to keep our audience informed and up to date.ย
The ideal candidate will embody an entrepreneurial spirit, a passion for Future of Goodโs mission and have the following skills:
- Expertise and constant curiosity about all things social impact related
- Demonstrated ability to research, report, write, and edit a range of in-depth stories and to spot important stories and trends
- Strong interviewing skillsย
- Proven attention to detail on fact checking and copy editing
- Positive attitude and ability to thrive in high-pressure startup environments
- A minimum of two years of experience contributing (full-time or freelance) for a print or digital publication

Compensation approach: Minimum monthly salary available is $2,000/month. Our approach to compensation is a listening, co-shaping conversation with you. We want to discuss compensation with you to make sure we get it right.
