FINCA Canada, Global Affairs Canada to spend $5M tackling youth unemployment in East Africa
In a significant effort to tackle youth unemployment and economic barriers in East Africa, FINCA Canada has announced a new five-year partnership with Global Affairs Canada.
The initiative will see $5 million go towards supporting more than 40,000 young people in Uganda and Tanzania, focusing on empowering young marginalized women.
FINCA works to end global poverty by creating sustainable solutions.
The youth unemployment rate remains far above the national average, at 17 per cent in Uganda and 11 per cent in Tanzania.
Young women also face unemployment rates 50 per cent higher than men.
FINCA says the funding will help reduce regional poverty by refining skills, enhancing financial inclusion, and improving employability.
