First apartment building in Canada becomes Rainbow Registered

Hazelview properties in Toronto has announced the opening of Canada’s first Rainbow Registered rental building.

Businesses and organizations that meet high standards of creating inclusive spaces for 2SLGBTQI+ customers are given accreditation.

Numerous businesses in Canada are Rainbow Registered but Hazelview claims its apartment at 73/75 Broadway Ave. is the first residential building to receive accreditation.

The 2SLGBTQIA+ community faces unique challenges when it comes to housing in Canada.

Landlords may have biases leading to discrimination in application processes.

Many queer renters also face economic barriers, according to an Egale Canada study.

Safety concerns are also a major issue for 2SLGBTQIA+ renters, with the risk of harassment or even violence in their apartment buildings.
