One of four abortion providers in Vancouver shuts doors, cites funding concerns

At the end of June, one of only four abortion service providers in the city of Vancouver closed its doors permanently.

The Elizabeth Bagshaw Clinic announced the closure in March 2025, stating at the time that there was uncertainty linked to Vancouver Coastal Health’s plan to consolidate reproductive health services.

In this new model, the Elizabeth Bagshaw clinic would have merged with two other clinics, the Everywoman’s Health Centre and Willow Reproductive Health Services.

When announcing the closure, the board also cited a lack of long-term funding as a significant challenge.

In a statement following the closure, the Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada highlighted that the clinic was opened shortly after abortion was decriminalized in the country.

Locals in the city also launched an online petition to prevent the clinic’s shutdown, which has amassed more than 2,700 signatures.
