Ottawa boosts support for military members transitioning to civilian life

The federal government has provided Helmets to Hardhats (H2H) with new funding to help strengthen transition opportunities for veterans, reservists, cadets, and military family members in Canada.

The national non-profit was provided $3.2 million through Employment and Social Development Canada to hire three new veteran outreach specialists, all veterans themselves, to help connect military community members with job opportunities.

Nearly 18 per cent of veterans describe the transition from military to post-service life as difficult, according to new data from Statistics Canada.

Women in particular face greater challenges, with only 34 per cent of those released in recent years describing their transition to civilian life as easy, compared to 48 per cent of men.

H2H’s new advisors will help military members access training, certifications, and direct pathways to employment in Canada’s trades, ensuring more veterans can build sustainable second careers.
