The ultimate Canadian food trifecta: Poutine, bannock and Nanaimo bars
Good morning, and happy Wednesday, the middle child of the week.
Here’s a cool round-up of all things happening:
- There won’t be an Impact Insider newsletter on Monday, as the Future of Good team is taking Monday off, leading into Canada Day on Tuesday.
- Speaking of Canada Day, I know it’s a day fraught with feelings for many, especially if you’re Indigenous, a new Canadian, a settler, or anything else (frankly, to me, the fact that your background could be anything is what makes us Canadian.) There is no wrong way to observe Canada Day, so do what feels right. Attend a celebration. Learn about Indigenous history. Eat Canadian things like poutine, bannock and Nanaimo bars. Binge-watch Corner Gas. Stay in your hammock all day and read.
- Speaking of reading, watch next week for our summer reading list, carefully curated by me… and many other random people.
- Speaking of summer, it’s officially here, and that means it’s time to slow down if you can. We are privileged enough to be taking Fridays off through the summer. I hope you can find break time. Do your best to turn off the screens (yes, I understand the irony of that after advising a Corner Gas marathon), hang out outside and just breathe. Don’t forget the sunscreen, a hat and a bottle of water, and enjoy what your community has to offer.
