California software executive to take over helm at Calgary-based Benevity
Calgary-based Benevity, which provides donation, volunteer and grant management platforms, has appointed Christopher Maloof as the company’s next chief executive officer.
The former president and chief product officer of MeridianLink will replace Kelly Schmitt, who served as CEO for six years.
“Chris has exceptional experience leading organizations focused on growth, scale and efficiency,” said Benevity founder and Board member Bryan de Lottinville. “He is also aligned with Benevity’s mission and understands what it means to be part of a purpose-driven organization.”
The corporation offers software in 22 languages and has processed more than $15 billion in donations and 79 million volunteer hours since its inception. It has also managed nearly 850,000 grants worth $16 billion.
In early 2023, Benevity terminated 14 per cent of its workforce, citing macroeconomic conditions.
Technology layoffs peaked worldwide in the first financial quarter of that year.
“Although we continue to experience healthy year-over-year growth, the hard reality is that as a company we are overbuilt for current market conditions,” then-CEO Schmitt said at the time.
