Arctic non-profit invests $9.3 million in northern research projects
ArcticNet has invested $9.3 million to support Indigenous and Northern-led research across Inuit Nunangat and Northern Canada.
The non-profit helps shape Arctic adaptation strategies and national policies to address socioeconomic and climate change challenges through research, capacity building, and development.
The funding will support 13 research projects through ArcticNet’s North-by-North Program, through three pathways.
The projects will be led by Indigenous governments, organizations, northern post-secondary institutions and research centres, with projects focused on priorities identified by northern communities.
The research will also address issues including housing, health, energy, resource management, infrastructure and wildlife conservation while bringing together Indigenous knowledge and scientific research.
The funding will also support training, mentorship and research governance to strengthen long-term research capacity and Indigenous and northern leadership in decision-making.
