Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation receives $100M, its biggest-ever donation
The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation’s latest fundraising campaign is off to a good start, thanks to a $100-million donation from an anonymous benefactor.
According to the foundation, the donor has “a personal connection to cancer” and that the money will be used to support research, education and care.
It will also offer the “flexibility to accelerate breakthroughs and innovations.”
The gift, the largest in the charity’s history, was said to be inspired by the PMCF’s “Carry The Fire” drive, which has a goal of raising $2.5 billion.
In June, Simon Fraser University received a $40 million donation from a couple in B.C., and an anonymous donor also gave $13 million to help open a youth wellness centre in Vancouver.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a shift in charitable giving. Data from Staistics Canada shows fewer Canadians have been donating, but that larger gifts are being made.
