Kids Help Phone to develop GenAI crisis response training tool
Kids Help Phone (KHP) will be partnering with Toronto Metropolitan University to develop an AI-based crisis response training tool.
The generative AI model will be built on 750,000 anonymized transcripts of conversations that KHP has had with youth, allowing trainee volunteers to participate in simulated conversations.
The project will be funded by Wellcome, a global, UK-headquartered charitable foundation focused on health.
KHP has already announced several AI-based interventions, including a partnership with the Vector Institute to use AI in service delivery to young people, and acceleratorKHP, an initiative to bring technology and data expertise into the youth mental health space.
Research shows that there has been a decline in positive mental health for those between the ages of 12 and 25.
KHP has received more requests from young people who were referred to the organization by ChatGPT.
