Deadline nears for Realize Capital Parters’ rural social‑finance funding

Realize Capital Partners will close submissions for expressions of interest for building the social finance market in rural Canada next week.

The organization’s newest initiative, which deploys non-repayable funding for investment products in Canada’s massive rural areas, will stop accepting submissions for two categories on Sept. 4.

Applicants must demonstrate they’ve worked in rural settings, not just studied them. Local relationships matter; Realize is looking for groups with roots in the communities their new financial product will serve. Applicants must also demonstrate business acumen, including the ability to select the right financing approach that makes financial sense and serves the project’s goals.

Once the expression-of-interest period closes, Realize said they will invite selected applicants to submit a full application.

Up to two selected applicants will receive non-repayable funding in the $100,000- $120,000 range to facilitate the launch of their products.

Rural communities are among Canada’s most underserved markets for financing—many programs pit them against urban communities, which have greater capacity and potential for impact.
