People Practices Lab for Changemaker Wellbeing

Overview

The non-profit sector is facing a critical workforce challenge. Nearly half of employees in community-based non-profit employees are at risk of leaving, especially in social services and arts, where over 50% are considering departure. Job satisfaction, burnout, and financial stress are closely linked, and inaction will threaten the ability for the social sector to meet the demands and needs of our communities.

Changemaker Wellbeing: A Peoples Practices Lab is a hands-on, interactive symposium for HR and people leaders to strengthen the five foundational HR practices confirmed in the Changemaker Wellbeing Index to improve employee engagement and retention. Participants will engage with expert support, interactive case sessions, and peer exchanges to explore practical strategies across HR essentials, including onboarding, retention programs, and leadership practices. Attendees will leave with actionable tools, networks, and resources to create workplaces where good people can thrive and drive lasting impact.

Learning Outcomes:

   • Identify the HR practices most correlated with retention, job satisfaction and employee wellbeing

   • Explore remote and hybrid strategies that enhance autonomy, connection and performance

   • Learn how to map workforce pain points to scalable structural interventions — not just perks
