Time for a summer fling (but not out of a slingshot)

Me, ten days ago: “Ahh, summer, things will start to calm down now, and WHAT DO YOU MEAN THE PM IS ASKING FOR CHARITABLE MONEY FOR 24 SUSSEX?”

Newsroom: “The PM is asking for charitable money for his house.”

Me: “Well, this is a Friday.”

It’s not often we get breaking news. Our journalism tends to be deeper than that – going beyond the breaking news to dive into the impacts (a trigger word for many of you, I know, I’m sorry) of what the news means for the social good sector.

I actually love breaking news, and I’ll admit I miss working in the daily news cycle some days.

It’s an adrenaline rush, not unlike being shot out of a slingshot (which I did in my 20s) or launching day for a new endeavour for the city (which I did in my 30s) or performing a song you’ve always wanted to do on stage (which I did last week, and I was more excited than the crowd).

But it’s mentally and physically draining, and sometimes you need a break from breaking news, or launching new programs, or singing More Than a Feeling, or participating in a ‘summer fling’ and risking your neck.

With the hopes of not jinxing ourselves, you’ll see things become a little quieter around here as the team takes their well-deserved and needed breaks, and we prep for Storyteller Camp and a few things we haven’t announced yet (but are excited about!)

I hope you’re able to take your well-deserved breaks, too. Have a happy summer, Canada.
