Charities Directorate targets digital-only T3010 filing by 2027
The Charities Directorate is aiming to move all charities and registered national arts service organizations to digital T3010 filing by the beginning of 2027, according to an email announcement sent on Jun. 12.
Part of the modernization framework for the sector announced in the Spring Economic Update – in which the federal government sought to “align [the charitable sector] with best practices adopted by other G7 countries” – the shift to digital will also improve data accuracy and quality, the CRA said.
The announcement states that the paper form will only be available by exception. The Charities Directorate’s fax line was retired earlier this year.
The Charities Directorate has committed to consultations with the sector, as well as a new digital concierge service to support the transition to digital filing.
According to Canadian charity law firm Blumbergs, 30 per cent of Canadian charities file their T3010 forms using the CRA’s online system, with a further 35 per cent filing using an authorized third-party software provider.
