Announcement: Future of Good is now a Registered Journalism Organization

In short: We are now a charity and qualified donee.

Why It Matters

This clarifies and solidifies our contribution to people doing the hard work - the people in the community, on the front lines, and who are hungry for the data, journalism and insights that make their work easier.

Last week, we received news that will transform Future of Good into a public good.

Future of Good has been granted Registered Journalism Organization (RJO) status, which means we are recognized by Canada’s Charities Directorate as an organization that exists for the benefit of the community.

We are in rare company, with only 17 organizations across Canada achieving this status, such as The Narwhal, La Presse and The Local.

In short, we are now a charity and a qualified donee.

In addition to being a QCJO (Qualified Canadian Journalism Organization), this recognizes that we produce original journalism that benefits all Canadians.

OK, you’re thinking. That’s nice, but why is this important?

For starters, it means that we can offer tax receipts for donations.

But the part that really excites us about this change is the possibility this unlocks for changemakers across Canada. This clarifies and solidifies our contribution to people doing the hard work – the people in the community, on the front lines, and who are hungry for the data, journalism and insights that make their work easier.

This is a big step forward, and by supporting us, we, in turn, support you.

Our journalism is intended for changemakers, who are the people who do the work to help others. Changemakers are teachers, leaders, doctors, nurses, non-profit workers, charity workers, funders – those who help.

You are a changemaker. You help others. And we want to help you back.

We do this by freely sharing stories that give you the ideas and know‑how you need to make faster progress on the cause you care about.

And now we ask for your help. We want our journalism to remain accessible to changemakers everywhere. To do that, we need to enable the next version of Future of Good. This will mean continuous access journalism – one without the annoyance, friction and barrier of a paywall. Support us and create the movement that supports us all.
