How hard does climate change hit your pocketbook? This new group will find out

This summer, the group Investors for Paris Compliance issued its final report and sunsetted its activities, but now a new organization has arisen to further expand on I4PC’s mission.

Former core members of I4PC have launched the Climate Affordability Institute, with the intention of “working at the intersection of climate change, affordability, and consumer protection.”

The institute will do this, in part, by connecting the dots to understand who and what is accountable for rising costs and documenting how much Canadians are paying to address the effects of climate, it said.

For example, it will calculate the toll that insurance takes on household budgets and how that issue is spreading geographically.

The institute also plans to engage in public education, policy advocacy and coalition-building campaigns and wants to popularize the concept of “polluter-pay” by seeking damages from large emitters.
