Kids Help Phone launches urgent fundraiser as overnight texting demand surges
Demand for overnight mental health texting support at Kids Help Phone has surged 2.5 times more than its regular level, with the biggest increases recorded in the Yukon at 64 per cent, followed by Prince Edward Island at 59 per cent and B.C. at 49 per cent.
The dramatic rise in demand has prompted the non-profit to launch an urgent fundraising campaign to hire additional overnight staff, particularly in B.C. and Atlantic Canada to respond to late-night and early-morning texts.
The national organization is also looking to hire more French speakers.
Kids Help Phone has seen a 24 per cent increase in overnight text messages since June 30, compared to the same period last year.
Overnight texting volume is also 183 per cent higher compared to daytime hours.
