Charitable status maintained, but Mosaic operations wind down

The Mosaic Institute has closed its doors.

In a statement posted to the organization’s website, executive director Leigh Naturkach said the institute was “not exempt from the changing fundraising and philanthropy landscape that has impacted organizations across the country.”

Like many Canadian non-profits, it struggled to secure core funding, she said.

During its 17 years in operation, the institute sought to dismantle prejudice through education, training, policy, research, and dialogue.

One of its key programs was the UofMosaic Fellowship, a two-year program that provided personal and professional development opportunities to students of diverse backgrounds to “activate their leadership and change-making potential.”

Naturkach has indicated the organization will maintain its charitable status as it examines possible paths forward.
