Muslim artists in Canada to benefit from newly created fund

The Inspirit Foundation has launched a first-of-its-kind fund to support the work of Muslim artists and creators in Canada.

The New Narratives Fund aims to support the marketing, distribution and presentation of Canadian Muslims in pop culture by focusing on uniquely creative works and projects.

Eligible projects include digital and screen-based projects, performance-based initiatives, and multidisciplinary initiatives. They must be ready to launch in 2025 and have the potential to create a substantial impact within their communities and beyond.

The fund was developed with guidance from an advisory committee of Muslim creatives, including Sikandar Atiq.

According to the most recent Statistics Canada Canadian Artists and Content Creators Economic Survey, Canadian creatives described their income as “volatile and low.”

Respondents also said the COVID-19 pandemic worsened their economic situation, while further Statistics Canada data shows that anti-Muslim hate crimes have increased substantially in recent years.
